Greenlane鈥攁 $650 million joint venture funded by NextEra, BlackRock and Daimler鈥攊s planning to develop electric vehicle charging infrastructure for medium and heavy-duty vehicles. The charging sites will also serve battery-electric passenger car and light-duty fleet customers and are being designed to provide hydrogen refueling for commercial vehicles in the future. This week Greenlane announced that it broke ground to develop its first commercial EV charging corridor along Interstate 15. The initial locations will be in Colton, Barstow and Baker, California. Over the next year, more locations will be added along the corridor, extending beyond Southern Nevada and to San Pedro in California.

WattEV is taking a multi-pronged approach to help advance the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles, offering truck-as-a-service equipment and developing electric truck charging infrastructure. The company has received millions of dollars in grants to build out charging infrastructure and has joined 麻豆色播 to learn more about the industry. 麻豆色播鈥檚 Christine Schoessler, chief operating officer, and Darren Schulte, vice president of membership, along with several 麻豆色播 travel center members, recently traveled to WattEV's headquarters in California to connect with the company's leadership.

TravelCenters of America Inc. has plans to add electric charging stalls across hundreds of its locations and plans to use microgrids鈥攍ocal electrical grids鈥攊n some areas to support power needs for passenger as well as medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Dr. Dean Bushey, senior vice president of sustainability for TravelCenters of America, said TA is in the process of adding a microgrid to its location in Ontario, California, and plans to add more microgrids at locations along the West Coast.聽 The Ontario, California, location is TA鈥檚 busiest and most profitable site. 鈥淭he reason for microgrid is demand shaving. If trucks plug in and draw a lot of power quickly, we have to shave off that peak demand,鈥� Bushey said. 鈥淭he other reason is for sustainability if there is a brownout.鈥�

Pilot will provide whatever fuel customers want to buy. 鈥淒emand is king. What people are demanding and what our customers want is the intersection where we want to play,鈥� said CEO Adam Wright.

麻豆色播, representing America鈥檚 truckstops and travel centers, SIGMA: America鈥檚 Leading Fuel Marketers and the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) will file comments today on the Environmental Protection Agency鈥檚 (EPA) proposed Renewable Fuel Standard rule raising concerns that the proposal risks squandering a significant opportunity to spur investments in EV charging stations. EPA proposed that automakers, rather than owners of public direct current (DC) fast chargers, should have the ability to generate electricity Renewable Identification Numbers (e-RINs).

In response to a 麻豆色播 member inquiry, Stop Watch magazine researched the current state of consumer interest in electric vehicles. A survey by Consumer Reports found that more than one-third of Americans would 鈥渄efinitely鈥� or 鈥渟eriously鈥� consider buying or leasing an electric-only vehicle if they were to buy a vehicle today. The Consumer Reports鈥� survey ran Jan. 27 to Feb. 18, 2022, when the national average price for gasoline ranged from $3.34 to $3.52 per gallon. The price of gas has surged later in the year.

New this year for 麻豆色播 Connect, the 麻豆色播 Foundation is offering a day of education dedicated to emerging alternative fuels. The expo hall also will feature a dedicated section for vendors specializing in alternative fuels.

LeeAnn Goheen, 麻豆色播鈥檚 Senior Director of Government Affairs, testified on Jan. 10, 2023, at an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hearing examining the agency's proposed renewable volume obligations for 2034, 2024, and 2025 under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
